Philosophy and Psychology

Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour, focusing on how people think, feel, and act. It explores mental processes, emotions, and interactions, aiming to understand both individual and group behaviour. Psychologists use observation, experiments, and research to study areas like mental health, learning, development, personality, and social influence.

In the context of Percomboo, psychology explains individual behaviours and decision-making in various situations. It relates to the subjective, individual component of the InFi equation. Psychology can help clarify why someone chooses one thing over another, or why a certain option is better suited to a particular person. It offers insight into why people are so different, even though we all belong to the same species. Percomboo includes an applied psychology aspect, as it approaches individuals differently based on their unique psychological makeup.

Philosophy, on the other hand, is the study of fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, values, reason, and the nature of reality. It uses critical thinking and logical analysis to explore concepts like truth, morality, and the meaning of life—often diving into questions that don’t have clear or final answers. At its core, philosophy is about seeking wisdom and understanding the world and our place in it.

In relation to Percomboo, philosophy explains cause-and-effect relationships, logical reasoning behind situations, and their possible outcomes. It focuses on fundamental and universal principles, which are the external or objective components of the InFi equation.

Differences Between Psychology and Philosophy as Academic Subjects (for a Particular Person)

Psychology, as a subject, may be more suitable for someone interested in understanding how people function on a personal level—how we think, feel, and behave in everyday life. It’s grounded in science and empirical research, with a practical approach to solving real-life problems.

Philosophy, however, might appeal more to someone who enjoys abstract thinking, questioning everything, and exploring the bigger picture of life. It’s less about empirical facts and more about logic, reasoning, and interpretation.

In short, psychology helps you understand people. Philosophy helps you understand principles. Both are valuable, but which one resonates more depends on the kind of questions you're drawn to—and the kind of answers you're willing to live with.
